Transient Architecture

The main concept behind this design was a building that would serve its purpose as a temporary space and when the building is no longer in use, the main components of the build; the roof, partitions walls, and floor will be removed, recycled and left is a rammed earth wall that will slowly erode, vegetation will grow up and will eventual become part of the landscape it inhabits.

The rammed earth wall becomes a base structure for the building which is accommodation for the cyclist of kent. Through carving of the wall, sitting areas, walk ways, and storage has been designed into the building. These carved out areas will still exist after the building is gone but the purpose will change, and instead will be used as shelter for walkers form the wind, rain, and to sit. pervious carved out storage units become nesting places for birds and local wildlife. And the rest of the wall itself will eventually become a canvas for vegetation to grow up.

Our architectural designs mark the landscape and have a presence not only when they’re in use but also when they’re derelict. Building’s often get erected for one purpose and when that is complete they get forgotten. Architecture has the opportunity to be transient, this is what i have strived for within the project.
